Parent Services

  • The Hernando County School Board believes that positive parent/family involvement is essential to student achievement and thus encourages involvement in each school's educational planning and operations.  The Exceptional Student Education Department currently has a full-time Parent Liaisons.  Whose roles include, but not limited to:

    • Meet as an Advisory Council four times a year

    • Develop and disseminate a quarterly newsletter

    • Provide outreach services to parents and staff to equip them with available opportunities, information and/or support

    • Partnership with local community agencies and support groups

    • Provide staff development and parent training opportunities such as: 

              Creating Family Friendly Schools
              Effective Parent/Teacher Conferences
              Conflict Resolution
              Collaborative Communication & Active Parenting Now/Teens

    • Provide all new families with children with disabilities an Exceptional Student Support Services information packet

    • Review data collected by the statewide parent survey to complete a needs assessment (basis for action from feedback)

    • Development/collaboration of special events and/or activities for parents and staff

    • Provide "We're More Alike Than Different" trainings district-wide,  as well as participating with Disability Mentoring  Day

    • Provide telephone support

    • Update and maintain the ESSS/FDLRS lending library

    • Attend FDLRS Child Find screenings to meet parents of children ages 3-5 who may have disabilities and to share resources

    • Attend Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings upon request of parent or school

    • Other assistance as requested
